The 2010 Coca-Cola International Soccer Camp will take place in Pretoria, South Africa from June 15-20, 2010. Close to 300 teens from countries around the globe will participate in this training and development camp . The goal of this camp is to achieve a healthy balance for developmental players to enjoy and learn more about soccer. Here are a few facts:
The camp is open to both boys and girls ages 13-16 but all nominees in each nominated team of four (4) must be same gender.
University of Pretoria (TUKS) located in South Africa’s capital Pretoria will be the host for both accommodations and all the sports facilities. This venue is approximately 60km north of Johannesburg.
Each team of four will be accompanied by the nominated coach for entire trip. In addition, The Coca-Cola Company will be providing chaperones at the Soccer Camp. (NOTE: team members' parents cannot attend the camp, nor can they serve as coach/chaperone.)
All teens and coaches, as well as select staff, will be staying in TUKS Village.
There will be a half-day tour of Rhino and Lion Park/Cradle of Humankind – This tour will allow the teens and coaches to enjoy a taste of the wild through a visit to one of Johannesburg’s premiere Nature Reserves. The Participants will get to see Africa’s most exciting animals.
Teens will also get to attend a FIFA World Cup™ match at the Pretoria Stadium- which is just a short trip from the University of Pretoria. The match will be between South Africa and Uruguay.
A BIT ABOUT COACHES & SAFETY:
All winning teams will be chaperoned by their nominated coach. In addition, The Coca-Cola Company will provide additional chaperones at the Soccer Camp.
All coaches must speak English and the language spoken by the teens they will accompany.
Coaches must be 25 years or older at the time of the Soccer Camp.
EXPECTATIONS FOR COACHES:
In charge of the safety, well-being and supervision of the children while at the camp and during travel.
They need to offer support, guidance and direction to the teens and foster a FUN and safe experience.
They must be an authority figure and respect the rules and schedule.
Be informed of any special needs of the children (i.e. dietary, medical, religious, etc.).
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pre-Camp:
Meet with the teens and their parents prior to the camp.Be aware of and comfortable with camp procedures, regulations and guidelines.Travel with the teens from their home town to Atlanta, GA, Johannesburg and ultimately the University of Pretoria.Answer any questions that the teens might and parents might have regarding the camp and/or travel preparations.
During Camp:
Monitoring well-being of the teens throughout the camp.Be available to translate for their teens.Ensure that teens are on time and properly prepared for scheduled events.Set behavior expectations and help to maintain discipline and control, lead by example.Be aware of and comfortable with camp procedures, regulations and guidelines.Answer any questions that the teens might have during the Camp.
A full coach manual will be provided. Coaches will be required to sign this manual and attend training calls leading up to the camp.
General camp rules will apply for the full duration of the camp and these will be strictly enforced:
No alcohol allowed in or outside the camp.
Teens will not be allowed outside of their rooms after 10:30 PM local time.
No smoking.
No foul language will be tolerated.
No firearms.
No drugs.
Teens’ bags will be randomly checked during the camp for dangerous and prohibited items to ensure the safety of fellow participants.
Teens will not be allowed to break away from the group unless under coach supervision.
