In 2009, Evan Lysacek became the first U.S. male skater since 1996 to win a World Championship. This title, along with his two U.S. titles and a fourth place finish at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games, makes him a strong contender for a medal at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver in February.
Evan began skating at age 8 after his grandmother bought him skates for Christmas. He started out playing hockey, but switched to figure skating where he found more success. Lysacek owns national titles in the juvenile, novice, junior and senior divisions.
Evan's charitable work includes participation in "Target - A Time for Heroes," a celebrity event for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and support of the Dana Farber Cancer Research Institute, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Special Olympics.
