There is a need to be reminded of the sacrifices veterans and their families have made for us. Grab Grant will be sharing some grant opportunities for veteran organizations. you will learn some tips for evaluating funding opportunities to decide if they are worth your time.

1. Housing Assistance for Veterans

Housing Assistance for Veterans funds (HAVEN) assist in the necessary modifications to U.S. veterans, active-duty, reserve, and National Guard service members who have become disabled due to their military service. 

In addition, the funds can be awarded to Gold Star Families for home repairs/rehabilitation during this time frame. No funds are available until funds run out or on December 31, 2022.

Grant amount: Up to $233,000

2. FY 2023 AmeriCorps State Grants and National Native Nations Grants

Grants are available to the USA and territories tribes for volunteer staff to meet critical community needs. This funding is for programs that help impoverished and underserved communities, veterans, their families, environmental sustainability, faith-based organizations, and many other conditions.

3. Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans' Families (EBV-F)

Family members of eligible military veterans in the USA have an opportunity to participate in an intensive entrepreneurship education program. Individuals who want to start their businesses can receive mentoring and training in self-employment. Participants will receive the program at no cost, which includes lodging and travel.

4. Atwood Foundation Grant

Grants are available to eligible Alaskan IHEs and nonprofit organizations. The foundation must be contacted by new applicants at least two weeks before they submit their application. 

The foundation's focus areas include journalism, history, and the military community. Anchorage residents and visitors must be eligible applicants.

5. Health and Comfort Program

Donated goods and services are made available to US charities through in-kind grants. These funds can be used to distribute programs that support low-income veterans, homeless and disabled veterans. Although the types of goods donated will vary, they will all include necessities such as water, hygiene, and clothing for veterans from all walks of life.

6. Entergy Charitable Foundation (ECF) Grant

Grant-making organizations in the United States that provide grants to veterans and nonprofits. Also, donations to schools, hospitals, and government agencies. 

The funding is for projects and programs focused on workforce development, education, and poverty. The following states are eligible for funding: Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

Tips for Veterans Grants

  • You can check the Foundation's giving history using their 990 tax form. This information is available through Instrumental membership or the Foundation Center.
  • Make sure you calculate your competitiveness. Opportunities with a minimum of 20% chance of winning are preferred.
  • Contact the funding agency directly! Tell them about your project and get their opinion on whether it fits the program.Move on to another funding source if they are not interested. There are always more opportunities.
  • Look for funding opportunities within your community. These pursuits are more likely to succeed than the national competition.
  • Avoid chasing grants unplanned and develop a Funding Strategy.
