Normally people lose up to 100 hairs per day on average. But that is barely noticeable. But the main problem occurs when the amount of hair you lose becomes noticeable – that is when you need to be concerned and take prompt action.

The loss of hair may occur due to more than one or two factors. It might be for genetic traits, or it may occur due to the amount of dirt that accumulates on your head due to the poor air quality in the city where you live in. There may be various other reasons for hair loss, and often a high-protein diet is to be blamed for it. The protein-rich diet excludes many food elements which might trigger certain nutritional deficiencies that result in hair loss.

But if you are not on a high-protein diet, then there might other factors for your hair loss.

Are you iron deficient?

Iron plays a vital role in our body by supporting oxygen transportation and by helping to build healthy blood cells. But the amount of iron that is being consumed by you through your diet depends on the intake of other foods as well. Suppose you are consuming iron from non-meat substances. These substances absorb the iron and you are subjected to iron deficiency in spite of ingesting it. Similarly, if you don’t consume enough amount of vitamin C, it is also likely that you would be deprived of iron. Iron deficiency results in less amount of hemoglobin in the blood and this can deprive certain parts of your body of continuous blood flow. If the cells on your head don't get enough blood flow, the roots of your hair will become very weak and ultimately lead to hair fall.

Is your hair loss accompanied by a loss in weight?

Due to the improper intake of food, your body may be deprived of various essential nutrients. This causes a number of adverse effects on your body.  It hampers the immune system of the body, the process of regeneration of the cells in your body and makes you weak. If you find that you are losing both weight and your hair simultaneously, it may be due to the absence of the mentioned requirements. But remember that excess intake of any single nutrient won't do you any good. You need to follow a properly balanced diet in order to get a good result.

Can there be other factors apart from a high-protein diet?

When your daily life exerts an immense amount of stress on your mind, you are bound to face some health issues. And hair loss is one of them. Other than that, people who have the habit of consuming a lot of medicines or have to undergo medical treatments due to health issues, start losing a considerable amount of hair. Chemotherapy, blood pressure medications and antibiotics also cause a lot of problems in this aspect.
