If we want to exactly measure the transmission delay then we will have to send a data packet of predefined size using the ICMP command (Echo Request/Reply) by running a ping test . Transmission delay in a single direction is defined as half the time between sending an ICMP message and receiving it.

Ping test: how to read the results

Internet providers will also have to guarantee a maximum transmission delay value, exactly as established by AGCOM. A ping test gives us excellent results when the ping has a value between 0 and 30 ms and very good if it is between 30 and 50 ms. A ping between 50 and 60 ms is considered good, while between 60 and 80 ms is sufficient.

If the ping test should give us a value between 60-100 ms then we will have to consider the ping as insufficient and we will have to think about what to do to run for cover.
