Whitewater rafting is some of the most fun you can have on a river - especially on Snake River! From the fast currents to the breathtaking views. From the sudden but safe drops to the obstacles that need to be navigated. From the wildlife exposure to the pride of conquering a challenge with a team of others. Whitewater rafting is a blast that everybody should experience. To make a memory that will last you a lifetime, you must be well prepared. Jackson Hole whitewater rafting experiences are some of the best the country has to offer, and we professionals from the Rustic Inn can refer you to our list of preferred local whitewater guides for anyone who wishes to enjoy a whitewater rafting trip while you're visiting.

Dress Appropriately

You're going to get wet. Real wet. While that might be fine in the summer on a 90-degree day, and you are okay wearing a bathing suit or tank and shorts (avoid wearing white) under your life jacket, that's not always fine early and late in the season. Getting soaked can make for a miserable experience if you're navigating the rapids on a three-hour trip in 50-degree temperatures with little sun. Wetsuits can be worn to help prevent such a bad experience and allow you and your loved ones to enjoy the trip thoroughly. We do not recommend important footwear and would recommend water shoes for the occasion.

Educate Yourself

Make sure you know what you're getting yourself into. Check out the International Scale of River Difficulty. Snake River is a class III body of water. There are plenty of youtube videos you can review about the river, the rapids, and the different obstacles. Would-be rafters that struggle with motion sickness may want to skip the adventure, while those prone to anxiety and panic attacks need to evaluate whether or not this could be a trigger. There are guides to keep the teams completely safe, but the thrill can cause some unwanted stress. If you have specific physical medical ailments, feel free to call and ask if you should be concerned about the trip.

Take Care of Valuables

We know it's hard to separate from it but do try to leave your cell phone back in the room. Don't risk losing keys, phones, money, wallets, and purses. Take off your jewelry and watches, and don't try to bring a camera for pictures on the trip. If you're interested in getting some photographs, check out scenic floats. The calm floats allow you to enjoy the river without the risk of losing your valuables.
