Championship is an event which serves to determine a victor. This concept can apply to various forms of competitions such as sports or chess.

Wayne Rooney has had a difficult start at Birmingham City as manager. Following two defeats during his debut managerial performance, fans are turning on him and are booing him heavily.

Sheffield Wednesday v Millwall

Sheffield Wednesday are one point above the relegation zone but have won only one of their four away Championship matches since 2005 - against Millwall at Hillsborough this Saturday would move them closer to safety and would strengthen their chance of survival further.

Neil Thompson has overseen seven league matches as caretaker boss of Sheffield Wednesday without defeat. Under his guidance, they have experienced an upswing in form that should see them maintain the same side that won at 10-man Bournemouth last time out.

Millwall have drawn their last three Championship home matches and could find themselves fighting for survival if they do not reverse course soon. Even without Kenneth Zohore due to a calf injury, they did well against Norwich City in holding them scoreless for 90 minutes at The Den in their previous meeting at home; Aden Flint remains sidelined due to an ongoing suspension as well.

Southampton v West Brom

After an inauspicious start to their campaign under Ralph Hasenhuttl, Southampton finally earned their maiden win under him last weekend in a convincing 1-0 triumph against Burnley at St Mary's Stadium. While that result bolstered their chances of avoiding relegation from the Championship division, more improvement must be shown against West Bromwich Albion at St Mary's.

Ward-Prowse opened the scoring for Southampton by linking with Shane Long's flick to retrieve a free-kick 25 yards from goal and volleying past Myhill. Saints striker Danny Ings also notched his third Premier League goal of the campaign as his side made up ground on Turf Moor to pull away from two-goal deficit.

West Brom have conceded an average of 3.33 goals per 90 minutes this season - the highest rate in English Premier League. They possess plenty of goalscoring potential but must improve their defensive showing to prevent relegation from the Championship. Salomon Rondon and Tammy Abraham's return should help West Brom prevent further slippage; both impressed during their debuts against Chelsea earlier in the campaign.

Ipswich Town v Bristol City

Nigel Pearson will hope his Ipswich side can keep up the pressure on Championship leaders Leicester City with a win against Bristol City on Friday evening. They sit just five points adrift with one game left to play but must contend with Haydon Roberts being out injured for the remainder of this campaign.

The Tractor Boys began the 2023-2024 campaign with a mid-table finish but have seen dramatic improvement under Kieran McKenna as manager. Under their new boss's watchful eye they have proven difficult to beat while creating chances on both defense and offense.

Nathan Broadhead scored Ipswich Town's only goal at Ashton Gate after 16 minutes when he fired low past Max O'Leary with his low strike from outside the area. Ipswich were able to maintain their one-goal advantage despite some close calls; Tommy Conway headed straight at visiting goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky while Taylor Gardner-Hickman's strike from outside was deflected onto the bar by O'Leary before hitting it out for goal again from outsider O'Leary before.

Birmingham City v Southampton

Birmingham City have suffered at the hands of Southampton, losing four and drawing two of their last five EFL Championship matches there. Rooney has requested patience as he implements his new playing style, with no wins recorded under him yet.

An impressive Saints side quickly established an early lead against visitors when Taylor Harwood-Bellis nodded Adam Armstrong's delicious clipped cross past John Ruddy for Taylor Harwood-Bellis to nod past John Ruddy, while Carlos Alcaraz converted a short corner routine. However, visitors Krystian Bielik lofted a pass for Oliver Burke who was caught out by Bazunu's late tackle; but referee David Webb waved off strong appeals of penalty against Bazunu for whom no penalty would have been awarded.

Blues remain above the relegation zone despite poor defensive form and this fixture provides them with an opportunity to secure an important point. Southampton are an improved team who could make life difficult for Blues at home.
