Dental leaders might be asking "How do I expand my practice? What can I be doing in my everyday activities to achieve that?" We're teaming up with Dr. Steve Markowitz of MFD Dental Management--as well as a Skytale client -- to talk about the most crucial things that an executive director of a clinic can do to expand their practice.

It can be difficult to track your growth as a director and at times, you may be not productive. However, the actions you take today could lead to an increase in your business's performance tomorrow. "We're responsible for the success of our doctors, the quality of the care they deliver, and how they best support our patients and practices," Dr. Markowitz says.

Here are three things successful clinical directors accomplish:

Clinical Directors Recruit

"We're only as good as the quality of care our doctors provide," Dr. Markowitz says. Clinical directors are accountable in identifying top talent and establishing chances for these people. In reality, having a lack of staff could be one of the biggest obstacles for expansion. If you're getting calls from patients to make appointments and you're making appointments weeks or even months in advance, it's time to hire.

"Dr. Markowitz explains the process to be used for recruiting:

  • Find out the number of doctors that your company is planning to hire throughout the year.
  • Make a plan and identify ways to connect with doctors.
  • Create your own vision and share it with the world. an outline of what a good doctor will look like in your business.

"Recruiting is a full time job," the manager says. "Recruiting efforts should be constant--always be meeting people even if you think the office might be full right now."

Retain Providers

Once you've found a top team and a great clinical director, it's their responsibility to ensure that they stay engaged. What is the length of time that providers remain at your business? Have you created and maintaining a culture that your team members are proud of?

In the words of the Dr. Markowitz, "Ensuring your team is involved boils in three fundamentals:

  1. Does the group and their leader really are aware of the people they lead?
  2. Are they able to comprehend what their work can contribute to serve the goal?
  3. Do they have the ability to gauge the results?"

Doctor. Markowitz points out that compensation is just one aspect to the overall puzzle. To increase retention an executive director of a clinic may take a look at the health care quality and establish guidelines. It is helpful to establish measures as well as KPIs to measure the success of doctors. This will assist doctors in achieving their goals.

"When the right environment is created and the doctors' needs are understood and surpassed, retention of doctors will create optimal patient care and dental group practice success," Dr. Xiaoping says.

Grow Revenue

Clinical directors are also accountable for boosting their practice's revenues. It's helpful to develop an outline of how to reach the goals of revenue, whether that's cutting costs and selecting a new provider to work with and boosting marketing and so on.

"If we provide the support for our doctors to keep their patients healthy, improve patience case acceptance, and have systems and processes behind the scenes that allow for patients to be treated in the most optimal way, the outcome will be an increase in revenue," Dr. Markowitz explains.

The Making of a Successful Clinical Director

The Dr. Markowitz suggests that when planning your daily and weekly calendar, your tasks should be focused on recruiting retention, revenue, and recruitment. "The more time you can spend in those buckets, the happier your doctor team will be, the healthier your patients will be, and the more success your organization will have," Dr. Markowitz states.
